Altro’s vibrant new flooring goes down well in student accommodation

The University of Bristol has used the vibrant new colours in the Altro Aquarius safety flooring range as well as Altro Suprema II safety flooring and products from the Altro Whiterock range for a bold and bright, practical and hardwearing refurbishment of student accommodation.

Launched in 2012, Altro Aquarius is a revolution in safety flooring – it is designed for combined barefoot and shoe use in wet and dry environments. It is suitable for any type of shoe, including hard and soft soled, rubber and trainers.

This innovation means users no longer have to assess the risk of slipping to those in shoes or barefoot and whether to install studded or standard safety flooring.

The Altro Aquarius colour range has now been extended to include four striking new colours. The exciting palette delivers even more design choice for combined barefoot and shoe, wet and dry areas.

At the University of Bristol, Altro Aquarius flooring has been used in the bathroom of a seven-bedroomed, listed terraced house.

Callow Building Services carried out the installation. MD Richard Callow said: "This is the first time we have used the new Altro Aquarius. It's a great product to lay; much easier than some other manufacturers' products. It looks great once it's down."

Callow Building Services also installed Altro Whiterock wall panels in the shower and on the bathroom ceiling. Altro Whiterock is a cost-effective PVCu sheet extruded from a high quality polymer. It is easy to clean, impact resistant and grout-free. It meets all current EU Directives on health and hygiene.

Within the terraced house kitchen, Altro Suprema II safety flooring was installed. Offering an impressive palette of 40 colours, design-led Altro Suprema II can create moods from subtle to bold and inventive. It has been developed in consultation with customers, architects, end users and colour consultants and is ideal for a wide range of applications, from education to hospitals, leisure and offices.

Altro Whiterock Chameleon was installed as a splashback over the sink in the kitchen, giving a practical and decorative hygienic surface to complement the flooring. Altro Whiterock Chameleon in available in vibrant solid colours or more natural tones with a high gloss finish. Ideal for kitchens, cafes, shops and display areas, as well as healthcare and education environments, it is highly durable and provides a water-tight, wipe clean, smooth surface.

"Whiterock Chameleon is much more effective and easier to clean than tiles because there is no grouting," adds Richard Callow. "It's a very hygienic, long-lasting solution."

Gary Spillane, Residential Contracts Manager at the University of Bristol has a longstanding and very positive relationship with Altro. "I have used Altro products for many years on a number of refurbishment products at the University. The range is great, we get excellent service and nothing is too much trouble for them. Their installers are also very professional and get the work done on time.

"The new Altro Aquarius was recommended to me for this particular project. I was told about the new bolder colours being launched and wanted to try it. It looks great in the new bathroom, especially with the Altro Whiterock as well. I have specified Altro Whiterock many times before because it really suits our needs for practicality, aesthetics and hygiene.

"Altro Suprema II is also a product I have used before in many applications, including commercial kitchens. Again, it's very practical, plus it's easy to clean, with an excellent slip resistant surface, which is important in student accommodation where there are often spillages. We used in on a large project last year where it's proving very successful and cleans up like new."
