4: Energy Saving

Altro worked with the Carbon Trust in 2007 to save over 1000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions through efficient energy management programmes.

At the end of 2007, we set up an Energy Management Group to look at how, when, and where we consume our energy. Thanks to energy efficiency awareness programmes, we managed to reduce our total energy consumption by 7.2% between 2007 and 2009 and continue to try and reduce our energy consumption across the business.

Company cars, electrical equipment and production machinery are just a few of the areas we’re focusing on. Nothing will escape scrutiny as we strive to make our business as energy efficient as possible and we’ve also invested in an Eco Warrior data capture system. This helps production personnel to reduce gas and electricity consumption by identifying ways of operating the production lines more efficiently.

As a manufacturing operation Altro will always be an energy consumer. But it’s our aim to make sure we keep consumption to a minimum and look for the greenest sources wherever possible. This isn’t always the cheapest or easiest thing to do but, as a business, we are extremely committed to operating responsibly.
